BY Mark Twain, PB cp=1980. Watermill Press Classic Edition, complete and unabridged. 314 pages. Name in pencil inside front cover, no other marks. Page tanning, slight wear to front cover. Spine is tight and book in Very Good Readable Condition. Mark Twain wrote this book in 1876. He writes "Most of the adventures recorded in this book really occurred; one or two were expeiences of my own, the rest those of boys who were schoolmates of mine. -Tom Sawyer is a combination of the characteristics of three boys whom I knew. The odd superstitions touched upon were all prevalent among children and slaves in the West at the period of this story, (mid 19th century). Part of my plan has been to try to pleasantly remind adults of what they once were themselves, and of how they felt and thought and talked, and what queer enterprises they sometimes engaged in." This wonderful classic belongs in every library.

"In this immortal American odyssey of the South in the 1840s, Huckleberry Finn, fleeing his drunken father and civilizing efforts of the Widow Douglas meets up with a runaway slave, and the two escape together down the Mississippi on a raft. The splendor of the great river alternates with terror and misadventure, as the refugees drift south, stopping off in one-horse river towns, where society is gullible and mean and sometimes brutal. And there is a tme when Huck's loyalty to Jim is put to the test. But Jim's ennobling friendship and Hucks's own untutored morality help him to pull through, even at the risk of hell fire." This unquestionably American Masterpiece belongs in every library.
